Monthly Formation Retreats for Young Adults, 18-30

‘Jesus is calling you to be disciples with a mission!’ Pope Francis

In partnership with the 'The Catholic National Shrine of Our Lady' we are delighted to invite you to Walsingham to take part in 1061 at the newly refurbished Dowry House!

Are you a young adult Catholic, passionate about your faith and your journey to holiness? Are you looking to deepen your understanding of what it means to live and witness as a Catholic in today’s world? If so, then perhaps 1061 is for you.

1061 is a formation programme run in partnership between Youth 2000 and the Catholic National Shrine of Our Lady. The programme aims, through three retreats, to deepen your understanding of:

  • Prayer and the sacraments in ‘Abide with Me’.

  • Scripture and tradition in ‘Built on Rock’

  • Radical generosity in ‘According to Your Will’.

The retreats are each ‘stand-alone’ and can be attended in any order.

An experienced guest speaker will lead 6 engaging talks each weekend to help you develop your knowledge & understanding of Church Teachings & Scripture. Each weekend will include:

Mass each day - Prayer & Praise - Reconciliation/Healing Service - Holy Hour - Shared Meals - Social Time

Our hope is that through journeying with other young adults over the weekends you will:

  • Gain a greater understanding and appreciation of the depth of the Church’s teaching.

  • Grow in your own faith and the depth of your prayer live.

  • Feel empowered to live a life of witness and positive social action in your home, work or study environment.

Why 1061?

In 1061* Richeldis de Faverches prayed that she might undertake some special work in honour of Our Lady. In answer to her prayer, the Virgin Mary led her in spirit to Nazareth, showed her the house where the annunciation occurred, and asked her to build a replica in Walsingham to serve as a perpetual memorial of the Annunciation. The Holy House was built and in 1150, with papal approval, the Augustinian Canons built a Priory next to the Holy House. During the Reformation the Holy House & much of the Abbey was destroyed, nothing of the original shrine remains today, but its site is marked on the lawn in The Abbey Grounds.

The newly refurbished retreat house where 1061 will be held, Dowry House, is directly across from The Abbey Grounds. It is a huge blessing for us to be so close to this holy site where kings, queens, saints & sinners have all come on pilgrimage to pay honour to Our Lady and ask for her intercession.
